 | Harald hårfagre (Harald fair/finehair) is considered the real founder of the kingdom of norway. One of the most famous/badass vikings of all time. I think Ragnar shouldnt be fucking with him, not the other way around lol. In reality, Ragnar was danish, and Harald Norwegian, there was no conflict there. The history is totally effed up in this series. In reality, Kattegat is the name of the sea area between the three scandinavic countries. Its not even land. Denmark is portrayed with fjords and Mountains and whatnot. In reality, thats norway. Denmark doesnt have any of that. Its mostly fields and flat land. Doesnt make any sense. Berserker is a thing from the viking age. Its a fearsome warrior that consumes a small amount of "fluesopp" (a toxic mushroom) to go totally nuts. Thats the legend of the berserkers anyway. | At 18:07. This slave came all the way from China? I thought she was Inuit or from a people closer to Scandinavia. Jesus. Back in the early 800s AD, that would've been a good journey of at least 7 or 8 years, to get to Norway all the way from China. She said she was captured on a ship by pirates and then brought to a slave market. Chinese ships didn't sail west of India back then, so the pirates must've been Indian or Arab. The slave market was very likely in India. So did she literally walk from India all the way to France and Norway, traded from slaver to slaver like a terrible game of telephone? | At 11:22. Wait, Rollo learned Old French in, like, a week. Unless a year or two have elapsed between episode 3 and episode 4. Which would make more sense, since an annulment from Rome due to inability to consummate the marriage would take a few years back then--sending the letters of proof, the letters going up the Papal bureaucracy, the Pope then signing off, and then having all that documentation go all the way back to Paris. That took a long time. So it finally dawned on Rollo that he needed to fully integrate into the French culture and language before the princess would respect him. In Denmark today - our christmas has roots in Sweden, Germany and of course danish traditions. From Sweden: Santa Lucia etc. From Germany: The Christmas tree.
